DEACERO Saltillo Plant Implements SIFC process for its prime products

DEACERO S.A. the most important producer of wire rod and wire products in Mexico has implemented the SIFC Process for one of its most important products, the 1004 MHEX at its Saltillo plant. Basically a fine wire 1004 grade. This is of special importance because this 1004 must be cast with Argon shrouds at the CCM and must have full castability for surface quality purposes.

The 1004 MHEX is a grade that requires very stringent mechanical properties specifications and of course its process at the steel plant is particularly difficult. This is due to the inability to use Aluminum as in a normal SBQ grade with SEN casting. Therefore this grade requires full deoxidation, low C, low Si and low Mn and no SEN use. The SIFC process provides all the above.

The SIFC version in operation at DEACERO is provided with a software tool called SIFC NV. This tool provides full operation instructions and process variables from EAF tapping to CCM monitors for casting speed and blowhole monitors.

Since its implementation the 1004 MHEX grade has improved yield and consistent mechanical properties. At the steel plant its operation has become a benchmark due to the easiness of use of the software tool.
