ServMet implements Process Improvements for ULC Steels at ISCOR Flat Steel Products Plant
During Nov-Dec 2001 SvMet Engineering introduced a number of process changes for the production of Ti stabilized ULC steels at Iscor Flat Steel Products Vanderbijlpark Works South Africa. Iscor is determined to improve the quality of its products, especially those with high added value like ULC steels.

SvMet Engineering introduced concepts like slag control and slab surface characterization to improve the surface of the final products.
SvMet Engineering Revamps SIFC Process for Combined Blowing Vessel at Iscor Flat Steel Products.
Also during Nov-Dec 2001 SvMet Engineering made a full revamp of the SIFC process already operating at Iscor in order to adjust to the new vessel working with combined blowing [BOF 1]. The combined blowing is currently working with Ar blowing at the tuyeres of the BOF vessel. As is well known oxygen content at tap is lower for combined blowing as opposed to conventional top blowing operation. So far oxygen values have been within expectation and deoxidation as well as steel cleanliness has proven to be quite good. [See Fig. 1]
